KURUMI FFFCCCKKKKKK i haven't drawn her in YEARS!!! i stopped being a fucking coward and made her a bit more round like i imagined her. she is also now aiyana's aunt!! i guess this is a good time for me to serious think about her family, bc it's actually kinda important in this iteration

mom & dad are in cult; they prolly joined when kei was young? but he didn't like it?? i think it scared him lol. it's really the best way for me to explain kei's hatred for the shrine- is that he was a part of it when he was young??? 

i know aiyana and kei lived with their aunt in the OG, but i didn't think much on it. now, i think it's a really vital piece of the puzzle.

i'm thinking the tsuchidas were devout to the shrine, and decided to take it upon themselves to follow the exorcist families themselves and report back any activity. maybe they felt the queen and king were close to being born and wanted to keep the exorcists at bay? at this point, kei has been born but aiyana has not.

aiyana is born in this snowy town and her parents are delighted to spot that diamond birthmark. kei is well aware about the scriptures and what will befall the humans that are born with it. even more panic bc he's prolly SUPER aware that a boy with the birthmark was born only a couple of months beforehand. 

a new thing in this iteration of the story is that i'm thinking kei will be close to his aunt? i think she took care of him often when they went to the shrine; so they got close. now that aiyana is born, they prolly funnel a lot of energy into her and often dump kei with his aunt. he tells her a lot and she's disturbed by it. prolly tells kei to watch his parents and report anything to her.

her parents avoid talking about the shrine or even calling them- i'm sure there's suspicions that the exorcist families are well aware of the shrine. letters are easier to slip by, so i think her parents send letters to the shrine to keep them updated. i think aiyana has been there only a handful of times with her parents. once when she was a baby- to prove her birthmark. and maybe once a year after that?? 

tbh i don't think she paid much mind to it, lol. she prolly thought it was smth boring for her parents- like when a kid is dragged to the bra section in a store with mom LOL. 

kei is pretending to be a good kid and checks the mail/sends the letters out. from there, he'd intercept letters and keep them hidden. i think he was too scared to get rid of them; his parents made him paranoid more than likely? about the exorcist family, but just... yeah, he has anxiety lol.

eventually he eavesdrops on his parents, who are talking about how to get aiyana ready for her role. they had a pretty simple plan. we'll begin to fight- verbally and physically- at random times. and then, they'll write a will to likely put the miyatas in charge of aiyana (and kei). after that's established, they'd get into a final fight, with one killing the other and then themselves; severing a lifeline.

kei desperately looks for that will and is able to intercept it before it goes thru the mail. i'm assuming they requested to NEVER receive mail back, bc it'll get too suspicious, you know? so after some time, they carry out their plan. originally, they were going to kill kei, too. but i'm thinking he just so "happened" to be out (he fucking RAN lol). it's that or he managed to survive the attack?? who knows.

either way, the will never was fulfilled. instead, aiyana and kei moved in with their aunt. probably mom's side? and then kurumi is on her dad's side?? kurumi her aunt...
