Nadya Akiva is definitely her real name. However, she has many aliases. A woman whose played a bad guy and a good guy- depending whose side you're on. She sees not good and bad, but beliefs and what she feels is best for the world.
She's been employed by seedy companies, using her skills for the jobs they need done. She's excellent at infiltration, first hand information gathering and, well, killing. Mercenary is more her line of work, which has landed a nice sum of a bounty on her head over the years. Each job she had a different alias and lifestyle.
It was when she was employed to be an "undercover agent" for the police department of the town she was living in at the time, that she met a couple of men who she'd become quite close to. Where legalities kept the law out of, these "employees," not bound by a contract, would swoop in and finish the job.
At this age, she didn't want to live such an exciting life. And thus, figured it'd be nice to fade out of the light and live a normal life through this manner. Still fighting for her beliefs, but through a more stable means.
It didn't last, and her past did catch up with her. She was propositioned to join a very shady company and fight for their side, lest something were to happen to her current crew- and child, something she never revealed to any of her employers.
Without a word, she left to join this company and work for them. Finally, working against her will and beliefs. Not willing to put her face and reputation on the line, she dons a gender-neutral outfit with mask. She knows there will be times she'll face her former friends- they're bounty hunters, and the masked killer is definitely a big bounty.
She does her best to drop subtle hints to her rather dense friends, in hopes they realize who it is, and start working to fight against the system that took her in.
Unbeknownst to her law enforcement friends and employers, she was leading a double life at the time, doing bounty hunting on the side. Here, she meets another man who aids her catching crooks and creeps.
All the while, her teenager stays at home, thinking their mom is leading a normal life being an office lady.
Jamie quickly realized as he climbed the ladder that the laws barred him from always being a step ahead of criminals. He came into contact with others who weren't a part of the law enforcement, but would make excellent allies. Thus, he created an underground network, who worked tirelessly to extract the criminals in ways that would make them accessible to Jamie and his teams.
It worked well, but considering this was highly illegal, all things had to come to an end. As Jamie grew older, he became highly involved in the disappearance of long time friend and underground ally, Nadya. Who went by her last name, Akiva, most of the time. He was convinced it was a kidnapping, but the more he learned, the more he realized he had no clue who she really was.
Quitting the force, he decided to join the bounty hunting game instead. It meant he could make his own rules and pursue the leads and cases he wanted to- his target being what happened to Nadya. The more he uncovers tho, the more he worries that she willingly walked away from everything.
Not all is lost tho, as his long time dedication to the police grants him access to information still, having friends still in the force.
Family life is a bit different. He never wed, tho he was incredibly close to his friends. Worried he'd never find love and start a family, he decided to do what many others had already done- adopt. Many children are left orphans, and he figured he'd adopt an older child. Mostly because he truly believed if he adopted a younger kid, the chances of him dying before the child turned 18 were too high. And besides, older kids are overlooked!
He brought Katelyn home when she was 13, and he was 28. Never wanting to worry about her, he taught the young girl everything he knows about fighting and information gathering. A virtual mini-me of his skills and abilities, Katelyn- well, Katie- is now his bounty hunting partner. The father-daughter duo fight to find the truth. While getting a nice bounty~
